F-roads are Iceland’s highland roads, often unpaved and with challenging terrain. They’re usually open only during the summer months, depending on weather conditions and snowmelt. F-roads can involve steep gradients, loose gravel, and river crossings - suitable only for 4×4 vehicles. Driving on F-roads requires a high level of caution and skill. Here are some tips to help you navigate these roads safely:

Use a 4×4 Vehicle: F-roads are not suitable for 2WD vehicles. Only 4×4 vehicles are authorized to drive on these roads.
Check Road Conditions: Before setting off, always check the latest road conditions and closures. Some F-roads may close unexpectedly due to weather changes.
